Fish of the Month!

Cory (Corydoras) are a species of armored catfish that thrive in the warm waters of Brazil and other South American countries. They are characterized as a stout catfish with prominent barbs used to sift the river beds of the Amazon in search of various insects and vegetation. These barbels are very sensitive to breaking and are easily infected so a fine substrate is recommended in your tank.

The Corydoras live well in community aquariums patrolling the lower portion of the aquarium. A group of four or more in the aquarium is recommended due to their timid nature. This will help to keep them active and happy.

Feeding Corydoras is very simple. Cory Cats will scavenge the aquarium for uneaten food and detritus that makes their way to cracks and crevasses in the aquarium. We also suggest supplementing their diet with a specialized food. We recommend Hikari Sinking Wafers for Bottom Feeders. This sinking pellet is highly digestible and carefully balanced for cory cats and other bottom dwellers. The wafers soften up immediately when they enter the aquarium to allow the corys to eat without harming their barbs.

There are hundreds of varieties of Corydoras in the aquarium industry. Whether you’re new to the hobby or a veteran come on by and check our stock of Cory Cats regularly!
