You Got Some Lucky Fish!

While march is about all things green, there’s one green thing no one wants to see: algae. Read on to see what fish and inverts will help you fight this scourge.

Lawnmower blennyAlgae in saltwater aquariums can be a nightmare, but there are several natural options at your disposal. Always make sure to stock up on snails. You will want approximately 1 snail per 2 gallons. You can also invest in reef safe, algae eating fish, such as the lawnmower blenny. Cherry Algae Eating ShrimpFreshwater algae can be controlled in a number of ways. The simplest is of course to invest in an algae eating fish, such as a pleco or an otocinclus. For small tanks, algae eating shrimp, such as cherry shrimp, are a popular option.

Fish of the month: Gold Fish

Gold fish collageThis month is all about luck, so we want to highlight a fish that is considered lucky by some: The Goldfish! These highly underrated aquarium fish are the most domesticated of all our pet fish. Goldfish have charming personalities, and have been known to recognize their owners and beg for food. They are large growing, with fantastic colors, such as orange, red, white, and yellow. Several types of goldfish have been bred to have unique ornamentation, such as split tails, large crowns, and telescope eyes. Goldfish are popular for Feng Shui aquariums, as they are considered a symbol of wealth.
